SmartCAM v2024 Machining Additions

We have added new Chamfer Mill, Rounding Mill, and single point Thread Mill tools have been added to the JOS system. There is also new home positioning available in our Milling and Turning products.

New Milling Tool Types

The Chamfer and Rounding Mill tools can be used to perform edge milling operations, and can optionally be offset to accommodate the Tip Diameter using the Left/Right Offset property. A Tip Diameter of zero is now supported. The Thread Mill tool can be used with the Thread Mill process to generate multi-revolution thread milling toolpath.

New Work Setup Home Positioning

Work Setup tab now includes a Specify Home Position option that allows program start/end home coordinates to be defined.

New Work Setup Home Position (Milling): When the home position is in use, Verify shows the first tool starting at home and the last tool returning to home, and the specified Tool Change and Plane Change behaviors are used when applicable. The Specify Home Position option overrides the legacy home behaviors defined by questions #69 and #289 in the active machine SMF file, eliminating the need for separate .SMF files for different home return behaviors.

New Work Setup Home Position (Advanced Turning): When applicable, this eliminates the need for specifying individual tool change points for each tool. When the home position is in use, Verify shows the first tool starting at home and the last tool returning to home, with all turning tool changes occurring at the home position.

New Work Setup Home Position (Production Turning): When applicable, this eliminates the need for specifying individual tool change points for each tool. When the home position is in use, Verify shows each tool starting at and returning to the home position. The #XHOME, #YHOME, and #ZHOME template words are set to the specified home coordinates, and the code generation template (CGT) file can be configured to output these coordinates, or the applicable machine home commands.
