SmartCAM V15: Turn Roughing Improvements

A number of customer-requested improvements have been introduced to the SmartCAM v15.5 turning applications. These enhancements include new features as well as several quality improvements.

Lead In/Out with Bidirectional Profile (Groove Finishing)

The new Lead In/Out functionality introduced with SmartCAM v15.0 is now available for bidirectional profile processing, typically used for groove finishing and undercut features that require bidirectional motion. This option also can be used to face shoulders and turn diameters in alternating sequence.

Return to Start Option

A new Return to Start option has been added that when selected creates additional final retract points needed to return the tool to the initial start point. This is particularly useful to ensure predictable tool navigation, for example when transitioning from an internal bore to a tool change position.

 

Miscellaneous Roughing Quality Improvements

Several other important improvements have been made to the turn roughing processes, including:

  • Material Boundaries & Linear Rough Profile Clean-up - the turn roughing processes have been improved to ensure more complete material cleanup regardless of geometric part/profile configuration or material boundary definition.
  • Active Step - When the active Step is changed while a roughing process panel is open, the panel is now reinitialized to ensure the Leading and Trailing Effective Edge Angles reflect the selected tool.
  • Many more process refinements.
